I am blessed to have the opportunity to chat with our customers sometimes on a personal level. I spoke with Patti this morning she has been purchasing for years.
She told me after years of heart breaking events in her life she finally feels inspired most days. It has been two years since Patti’s husband died of cancer, she was the primary caregiver it was a devastating blow, she lost her job, and then her home, and was diagnosed with a medical issue herself.
With all that she told me, "I never blamed God." I asked her how she survived, she said it wasn’t easy, then she regained her gratitude. At first she had to really look to find something to be grateful for, over many weeks gratitude became a constant companion, once that happened life got interesting again.
A childhood friend was having similar issues around the same time. When both husbands had passed these two ladies decided to join forces in life and carry on. The most significant activity they embarked on was volunteering for Animal Rescue in their area. The ladies learned a powerful lesson from the animals that had been abused and that was to love again.
Life gives us challenges, in the end we decide will we allow the challenge to reshape us, gracefully or will we resist and fight. Both responses are required as we go through life. One of my favorite prayers is the short version of the Serenity Prayer I look for the choice when I say that prayer.
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
