Obtundia Cream and Wasp Stings

I was cleaning my windows last week, when I removed the screen from our bedroom window a bunch of wasps flew after me, they had constructed a small nest and I had disturbed it.  I could tell right away we had not gotten off to a good start.  I am here to tell you they were not friendly looking as I dropped the screen and ran across the front yard.

Before I could get away one of the wasps stung me on the back of my upper arm.  It started to burn and swell right away.  I am super sensitive to these bites.  Not allergic but mindful to pay attention to the sting and make sure it doesn't get out of control.

Since I was a small child we have put Obtundia Cream on all bites, stings, burns, scrapes, pimples, any type of skin irritation.  I flew in the house and applied a big dab of cream on the sting.  The stinging stopped within a minute, then I was off with Harley in tow to rid the window of the wasps so I could continue with my efforts to wash the windows.

As I mentioned Obtundia Cream has been a part of our family medicine cabinet since I can remember.  This has never been a product I could get by just dropping in the drug store we always mail ordered it. I had opened my last reserve tube to remedy the wasp sting and was ready to make an order when I sadly found Otis Clapp Company was sold and the new company is not making the product any longer.

When I got in touch with the manufacturer they said they didn't even have anything that was similar.

So, I guess it is so long old friend, we will miss you!

God Bless,

  1. Hello. I saw your post about Obtundia is a search for some. I, like you, was brought up using it. My grandfather always swore that his father used it to actually pull out a sliver in his finger overnight. It has helped me clear up countless pimples, and even has cleared up old spots… I am ALMOST out of my last tube. I found an ebay auction maybe 10-12 years ago with 6 tubes and bought them. i gave some to my family and mine is now almost out. Have you found something similar?

  2. Hi David,
From all the research I have done there is none anywhere. We are going to have to look at something different to help with mosquito and bug bites, burns, and abrasions.

I will let you know if I hear of anything. Teri

  3. the search continues. Back in 1986 I was introduced to Obtundia Cream. I was treated for some insect bites at work (back in the day when big companies had their own "company nurse"). It worked miraculously!!!! I was certain to obtain a few extra packages and hoard them. Later in life I had sever poison ivy. I remembered my old friend, Obtundia, but the "company nurse" had become extinct. I contacted Otis Clapp Company and ordered a large supply individual packages and some liquid in a bottle. I have about a dozen individual packages and 1/2 jar left today (July 2014) and thought I would replenish my supply. I am sad to hear this great product is no longer available.
Separation anxiety is setting in. Is there anything to match this great remedy?
