It is smoky in the neighborhood today, let me tell you why. It is not from the over 400 brush fires burning in our state it is from a business down the street.
We have a crematorium not far from our warehouse. I don’t have anything against crematoriums actually I expect to be on the receiving end of their services one day.
Not long ago I was in the office and black smoke started billowing past our front door, I was immediately alarmed. When I looked outside there was a lot of smoke but no signs of concern from any of our neighbors, hmm, what was going on. I walked down the road to the source of the smoke, it was coming from the crematorium. As you might imagine when it looks like your building is on fire there was quite a commotion. Being reassured that I was in no danger and our building was safe I went back to work, and the smoke cleared shortly after that.
Being the curious type I had to go back to the crematorium office the next day to find out what happened. The manager was so kind he carefully explained that there was someone new manning the ovens and the heat was turned up a bit too high for the fat content of the client being cremated. I immediately imagined our barbeque with greasy chicken and understood.
He asked if I would like to see what happens, of course the Inspired Learner in me was ready for more. The facility was very clean and organized, no bodies just lying about, of course I would think that. One of the ovens was in operation and I got to see someone in the fiery breakdown process. It made me think of one of the Old Catholic sayings I remember from my youth, “Remember man that you are dust and to dust you shall return.” There it was happening right before my eyes.
