My 12 days of Christmas

Today would be the first day of the 12 days of Christmas if anyone is interested to know what I would like I am offering my list below, of course these are gifts “My true love” would give to me.

  2. Season Tickets
  3. Blooming Orchids
  4. Course Dinner
  5. Gold Rings
  6. Great Conversations
  7. Christmas cookies
  8. Romantic Kisses
  9. Interesting novels
  10. Friends for Dinner
  11. Months of cleaning service
  12. Weekend Getaways
The traditional list is

  1. Partridge in a Pear Tree
  2. Turtle Doves
  3. French Hens
  4. Calling Birds
  5. Gold Rings
  6. Geese a Laying
  7. Swans a Swimming
  8. Maids a Milking
  9. Ladies Dancing
  10. Lords a Leaping
  11. Pipers Piping
  12. Drummers Drumming

As I look over the original list I wonder if the only great gift on the list are the Gold Rings which I decided would not normally be on my list but I wanted to keep something of the original list.

I believe the giver of the traditional list must have slaughtered the first 7 items on the list to feed the last 4 items on the list.  Maybe it was just a big party.  Honestly, who wants a bunch of guys drumming all day and the pipers piping how long can you listen to that?  Ladies dancing and lords a leaping I can just picture it.  The wild life should fly or run away if it can or it is definitely going to be dinner.

Then there is the story about the serious natures of these items during a time when there was no religious freedoms.

1 The Partridge in a Pear Tree = Jesus
2 Turtle Doves = Old and New Testaments
3 French Hens = Faith, Hope and Charity
4 Calling Birds = Four Gospels
5 Golden Rings = The first Five Books of the Old Testament
6 Geese A-laying = Six days of creation
7 Swans A-swimming = Seven sacraments
8 Maids A-milking = Eight beatitudes
9 Ladies Dancing = Nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit
10 Lords A-leaping = Ten commandments
11 Pipers Piping = Eleven faithful apostles
12 Drummers Drumming = twelve points in the Apostle's Creed

Much more than a silly song.

Merry Christmas,
