Merry Christmas vs Happy Holidays

I am on the front lines of the Co-op phone calls and have reflected on how to send along my holiday greeting when I get a call.  You know a little bit about me by now and I must wish everyone during December the best of the season.

The question comes up how do I accomplish this and still be politically correct, which heavily influences the season; I wouldn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings.

In past years my greeting if you called the Co-op, I would have wished my honored caller Happy Holidays, I always felt a little funny about that.  I do wish you a happy holiday but am also happy to put forward that my inspiration for celebrating the Christmas Holiday is Jesus.   I grew up with the teachings of the carpenter and am happy to celebrate the day of his birth.

So, this year my personal greeting to our callers is Merry Christmas and Healthy 2011.  I can’t tell you how many people have thanked me for not saying Happy Holidays.

No matter what you celebrate this time of year, even if you are a Bah Humbug sort.  I say a rousing Merry Christmas and Healthy 2011!

Merry Christmas,
