No sore gums, occasionally I would burn my mouth with coffee, nothing unusual. One day we were in an all day business meeting and as we talked and shared ideas I flicked my tongue over my braces so many times I got a sore spot on the tip of my tongue. I made it worse the next couple of days until I had an open sore, which really hurt. It didn’t hurt enough to get me to stop eating but enough I complained to anyone that I thought might have a solution.
Chris, our Chief Community Officer, had a suggestion, “Have you tried aloe?”
I told him, “No, but I have some growing in my yard.”
Chris said, “Using aloe that is unprocessed internally will give you the most amazing case of diarrhea.”
OK, I needed some aloe without the anthraquinone glycosides, the stuff that can give you diarrhea.
I went to a local health store and purchased a quart of cranberry flavored aloe juice.
I swished a small amount in my mouth every time I thought about it the first day and was shocked and amazed when I woke the next day my tongue was red and irritated but the open wound had closed. Continuing with the same diligence when I woke the second morning the red was almost gone and the pain and discomfort had totally subsided.
I am going to try to keep from worrying another whole in my tongue, but if I do I will certianly use aloe to fix the problem.
