A New US Citizen

The really big news is Donnaree our friend and esteemed shipper is officially a United States citizen.

This has been quite a journey for our friend.  It started with a letter Donnaree wrote to then President Bill Clinton telling him how difficult her life in Jamaica was and culminated with a lovely ceremony that Cindy and I attended to support this special person on a day that will change her life forever.

President Obama challenged the new inductees to contribute to the good of our nation as they write the next chapter in their personal lives. He welcomed our new patriots and invited them to be engaged in their communities.

As I have watched Donnaree learn about America’s history and our government I have had time to reflect on how blessed I am to have been born to our great country enjoying the freedoms others can only imagine.

I have every confidence Donnaree will continue make us all proud of her.

  1. Teri, Thanks for sharing Donnaree's story. She has worked so hard over the past year. I was so proud to be at the swearing-in ceremony. All of us could feel Donnaree's excitement before (and after the ceremony. And, Donnaree's commitment to all that we hold as good and important as citizens of the United States is so genuine. Beautiful to behold.

What you didn't share is how, almost like a second mom, you helped Donnaree prepare, making history fun!
