How are your recycling efforts going?

I am not an over the top recycler, I do try to do my part.  Ever since I was a kid getting after litterbugs I have had passion for our ecology.  One time I even handed a gentleman  back a cigarette butt he had thrown on the ground.  Mom was horrified, I was little.
We recycle at home with the help of Palm Beach County. Once each week they will pick up our glass, paper, aluminum, and cardboard.

The people at Publix, our local grocery stores, recycle foam containers and grocery bags.

At work we recycle all the cardboard we use.  I have no idea how much that is but it doesn’t end up in the land fill.  I also have a recycle bin that I take home each week with our work waste like bottles, paper, and plastics.

Once a month I go around our community and pick up trash that ends up on the side of the road.  It is not a lot, over time I have met my neighbors and I feel like I am doing something to help the environment as well as our neighborhood.

One year I did a project with Palm Beach County that took us scuba diving for litter.  I won a prize for the most unusual item found.  It was a huge buffing brush from an industrial floor cleaner.  Litterbugs, yeash!

Maybe that will make up for some of the air pollution I created smudging on Friday, I hope so.

  1. I recycle everything. Here is my list

Used stamps. = The veterans in VA hospitals They package them and sell them to stamp dealers.

Face of any greeting cards = I send them to some Catholic nuns who make new cards out of them and sell them to help their charities.

Newspapers = I take them to my local Humane Society. They use them to line the bottoms of the cages.

Cans and bottles = I take them to my local recycling center

Junk mail = My local recycling center has a container for them.

Used clothing that is in good shape = Goodwill

It amused me to hear someone say "Don't throw that away, check with Bea first.

This is all I can think of now.

    Love you,
    Mom
